At Sutton Road Primary School, our Nursery provision offers a vibrant and nurturing environment where young learners can thrive. We provide a welcoming space that encourages exploration, creativity, and social development, ensuring that each child feels valued and supported from their very first day.

Our dedicated team of experienced practitioners works closely with each child, offering personalized learning experiences that build confidence, independence, and curiosity. The curriculum is carefully designed to support early literacy, numeracy, and physical development, alongside fostering important social and emotional skills.

We believe in the power of play as a tool for learning, with rich and varied activities that inspire imagination and problem-solving. Whether it’s through outdoor adventures in our safe, well-equipped play areas, or hands-on activities that spark new interests, our Nursery provision aims to provide a strong foundation for future learning.

With a focus on building positive relationships and encouraging a love of learning, Sutton Road Primary’s Nursery is the perfect start for your child’s educational journey.

At Sutton Road Primary School, we want to be transparent about how our Nursery hours and charges work. Children who receive the government-funded 30 hours are entitled to these hours during the core part of the day. However, the time between 2:40 pm and 3:20 pm falls outside of the funded entitlement.

We offer this additional 40-minute session as an optional extended provision for families who find the later pick-up time more convenient. To cover staffing and resources for this extra time, there is a small charge of £3.00 per day.

There is absolutely no obligation to use this extra session—parents are welcome to collect their children at 2:40 pm if they prefer. For those who do choose to use the extended time, the £3.00 fee helps us ensure that we continue to provide a safe, high-quality, and well-staffed environment for all children.

If you have any questions about the provision or need help deciding which option works best for your family, please feel free to speak to a member of the Nursery team.

At Sutton Road Primary School, we understand that starting Nursery is a big step—for both children and their families. Our settling-in approach is designed to help every child feel safe, happy, and confident from the very beginning.

We foster a positive start from the very beginning by…

✨ Gentle, Personalised Transitions
We start by getting to know each child as an individual. Before children begin, we offer opportunities for parents to meet the Nursery team, share important information, and ask questions. This helps us understand each child’s interests, routines, and any support they may need.

✨ Stay-and-Play Sessions
To make the transition as smooth as possible, we invite families to join us for stay-and-play sessions. These allow children to explore the environment with a familiar adult, helping them build confidence and begin forming relationships with staff and other children.

✨ A Welcoming, Child-Centred Environment
Our Nursery is designed to feel warm, inviting, and fun. From cosy reading areas to engaging outdoor spaces, everything is set up to spark curiosity and make children feel at home.

✨ Strong Relationships with Key Adults
Each child is supported by key practitioners who provide comfort, reassurance, and encouragement. These trusted adults help children settle into routines, build friendships, and develop a sense of belonging.

✨ Clear Routines and Reassurance
Consistent daily routines help children feel secure. We communicate closely with parents, offering updates during the early days so you know how your child is settling in.

✨ A Flexible, Supportive Approach
Every child adapts at their own pace. We work with families to offer a flexible start, gradually increasing time spent in Nursery if needed so children feel calm and confident.

In early years we value parent and carer relationships and we aim to foster valuable and strong relationships with home through…

📅 Parents’ Evenings
We hold Parents’ Evenings twice a year, giving you the opportunity to meet with your child’s key worker to discuss their learning, interests, and next steps. These face-to-face conversations allow us to celebrate achievements and work together on any areas where your child may benefit from extra support.

📝 School Reports
At the end of the year, you will receive a detailed written report outlining your child’s progress across the Early Years curriculum. This includes their personal, social, and emotional development; early language and communication; physical development; and early learning in literacy and maths. The report also highlights your child’s strengths, key milestones, and individual personality within the Nursery setting.

📲 Ongoing Communication
Throughout the year, we keep you updated through regular informal conversations at drop-off and pick-up, as well as through our online communication platforms (e.g., ClassDojo, Tapestry, or your school’s chosen system). We share photos, observations, and little moments from your child’s learning, so you stay connected with their day-to-day experiences.

🌟 Open Door Approach
We encourage parents to speak to us at any time if they have questions or concerns. Our Nursery team is always happy to discuss your child’s development, offer advice, and work together to support your child’s learning journey.

🎉 Special Events and Stay-and-Play Sessions
We also invite families to attend stay-and-play sessions, workshops, and special events throughout the year. These provide additional opportunities to see your child’s learning in action and talk with staff.
