Daily Challenge - Maths Challenge

This week's maths challenge

Back to our Daily Challenges today – Just before half term we introduced Mr Rathe’s new Maths challenge.

Here’s a message from him:

Well done for all the entries to the KS1 and KS2 Maths Challenges last week.  I have chosen the winners for last week's Maths Challenges. Thank you to all the children who submitted answers. It was tough to choose winners!

For KS1, the answer is 35. There is a total of 70 pencils and these 70 pencils are split between two people, so we half this number. Halving 70 gives us 35. Every single answer that was submitted was correct, but I have chosen Alfie Cook this week for his excellent explanation.

For KS2, there were actually a few answers you could have had. If 'T' = 2, 'E' = 1, 'N' = 3 and 'S' = 4, then 'TENTS' would equal 12, because 2 + 1 + 3 + 2 + 4 = 12.

However, you could have used decimal numbers. If 'T' = 1, 'E' = 1.5, 'N' = 3.5, 'S' = 4, then 'TENTS' would equal 11, because 1 + 1.5 + 3.5 + 1 + 4 = 11.

I have chosen Caiden as the winner for his clear explanation and correct answer.

We look forward to your answers for this week's Maths challenge!
